Day 24

Distance Covered: 305 miles
Total Distance Covered:  4880 miles

Amazing relaxed three course breakfast of bread, jams, roast veg, potato and egg followed by melon in the morning sun, followed by some quick sightseeing and a quest for an ATM involving some perhaps rash purchases of hats of various description. Feeling like we could have stayed there for weeks, we sadly packed and left for Bukhara. This time however we had a passenger, Jackie, a remarkable American lady of 67 who has been travelling the world for 3 years who happened to be staying in the hostel and was headed our way. Was great to have someone else on board and Jackie kept us entertained for the 8 hour trip with a wealth of amusing stories and experiences, especially given the road was the worst yet. Evidently nobody has bothered to tell the Uzbeks that you can repair roads in sections, so they insist of digging up 100km sections of the old road without having finished the new one! Made it to Bukhara in time of dinner and beers where we met several more Mongol Rally teams including a Swiss/Italian team who had left their passports at our hostel in Khiva. In exchange for us couriering the passports to Bukhara we were offered beer and use of their shower the next morning, as our room did not have one.
