Day 23

Distance Covered: 411 miles
Total Distance Covered:  4575 miles

An early morning as we hoped to make Khiva in daylight, after a long drive in the baking heat we made it. Found the hostel straight away to discover a British team driving to Mongolia independently already there (2 of the 3 we soon found out were doing the same course at the same university Hugh has just graduated from … small world!). The hostel was great and very welcoming, with a view of the 18th century walled city just across the road. That evening after well and truly abusing the shower (cold of course) Hugh and I, along with the British team, Jemima (an Australian backpacker who was riding along with them) and a Spanish couple on their return journey from Mongolia on a motorbike all went into the old walled city for food and the added bonus of WiFi. For supper we had lamb Shashlyk (kebab) and lagman?? A traditional dish consisting of noodles, vegetables and some meat in a broth, it was delicious. Back to B&B for a good night sleep.
