Day 18

Distance Covered: 215 miles
Total Distance Covered: 3530 miles

Waking early we headed into Volgograd with hopes of registering quickly and getting on our way, on finding internet we soon realised this may not be the case at all and after much confusion headed back to the ambulance where we discovered the same MCR team ‘steppe brothers’ we had met in Hungary were parked with us. After being given an address of ‘somewhere that would register our visa’s’ we all jumped in a highly dubious looking taxi and gave him the address, after being taken on a tour of the local drug dens and crack spots we soon decided that this man had no idea where he was taking us but for the sake of his pride wasn’t going to give up. At our next opportunity we paid him and got out, not knowing where we were or being any closer to our goal. Finding our way back to the ambulances we decided to head to Astrakhan and book into a hotel to save us any more hassle. After getting hopelessly lost and an extensive tour of Volgograd oil refineries we were back on the road, in convoy to Astrakhan, knowing we wouldn’t make it there we pulled off the road at a little truck stop in the middle of nowhere.
